@AdamLauritsen @jeremypwynn @Dann_Sw @FromHappyRock Man, I've been teaching #pringling for YEARS. Scholars will agree it's impossible to draw a sausage dog without it. I'm now going to get back to #howtoTHINKwhenyouDRAW pringling parts 1- 10 because we clearly need to go into more detail on this.
i didnt realise repringling was so useful until now, the continuity allows a good sense of depth that really accentuates the composition
this took a while but I think I finally understood how the pringling techniques work, like HOLY SHIT I DIDNT KNEW THIS EXISTED BEFORE AND ITS CHANGED MY PERCEPTION COMPLETELY
@Dann_Sw I have a theory about the lack of pringling on these animals; I'd say it's because they're too smooth to create proper pringling shapes with either their bodies or surrounding areas. The twitter character limit is killing me, but I try to show here. the swan almost does, but no.
Great thread, maybe I am being presumptuous but I've also tried to integrate pringling into my own work, here I've diagramed out some examples of my pringling and some re-pringling (kind of hard to master IMO!)
Would love to see other artist's example of pringling too! https://t.co/pjxrhdYhz7
Interestingly, and this is fascinating, any painting containing a Swan, duck, or geese, by the nature of their very presence, contains NO pringling. This is a universal fact and scientists to this day are stumped as to why.
There are many other rules to pringling, however; Vermeer was a master of utilising it in his work. The spiralling hair, for example, in the lacemaker, actually continues all the way down and off the canvas and onto the gallery floor.
