We started with drawing Scooby-Doo based on a 2D image, then drew Master Shifu based on a 3D cartoon, and then drew from a photograph… we’ve come full circle!

It all comes down to making sure the elements don't clash. In the B&W image, the distant buildings are light gray; the middle is gray, and the foreground is a darker gray. If I wanted to add value to the distant buildings, I'd use 2 shades within that gray. Make sense?
