A general Step By Step. Working from a value Thumbnail sketch and defining the shape designs to work with the composition. Next I make a color key and once that is done, I separate the shapes and start render. At the end I focus on the FX and general details.

Drew 's Mocha! Found this character while browsing random characters and her colour scheme really called out to me. I'm not sure if she actually has a tail, but I love to use tails for composition.
