Echidnas are especially funny to me because Penders was insistent that their quills must be like star wars head tentacles and are important enough to justify having prosthetic replacements instead of just growing them back. They also have hair on top of their hair for girls

A mixture of things! I really like stars as a symbolic concept and wanted to incorporate that in a hedgehog’s quills! I looked at Toei Sonic and the way sonic looked in the Sonic OVA for inspiration. Red is my favorite color too so I looked at Kirishima from Mha for a spiky look!

I HATE the fact that Psittacosaurus only has a tuft of quills on the middle of its tail and that's it. It just has a random patch of unmoved grass. Why is this a thing.

EPIC FACT: In a concept made by Sonic Team, the quills on Silver's head could be used as a router for wifi signals. So basically, Silver would be a walking-talking internet hotspot. This concept was obviously scrapped.

The five quills on Silver's head also used to be linked to his emotions. This is seen in Sonic Rivals 1 and 2. When he was shocked or surprised, they stood up more. When he was tired or sad, they became droopy.
