Ugly is relative tbh, you can make an ugly thing to match an idea, thats ok. But manga covers mostly follow a repetitive nice pattern like close shot, mid shot, full body, cool pose. Dont get me wrong, i like them but, at the same time there's not a lot of experimentation like:
