As you can see I've drawn the depth map in now in Depthy. It isn't perfect by any means and you have to experiment. Sometimes you have to go over what you have already done. The darker is nearer and lighter further away. It is a real skill to get this bit right.

To be clear, Superman’s arm is still pretty mushy — his upper arm’s too short and the hand’s slapdash, giving what should be a nice solid right-leaning pose an unfitting sense of weightlessness — but that bit of white on the forearm at least lends some just-add-water depth to it.

She had been an eel that lived in shallow water but had gotten trapped in netting forcing her to drift slowly down down down to the depths when she was very young. Luckily she was able to survive, having been found by some deep-sea mermaids
