Usually what I do with the armature is start from the top and work my way down. Usually the top bone is "Hip" or "Rot". There's a lot of looking at references to see what is moved where to look natural, but the smaller details go a long way:

I use Clip Studio Paint! The canvas was 100x100, and Twitter blows it up big and makes it look kind of ick... They look a bit better when they are smaller, but I am also just experimenting still with pixels so 😂
