Here's a good example of why proximity for the density of the probe grid looks nice. As the mesh gets closer to a light source, the detail that can be displayed by the probs increases, giving a much more realistic effect.

Clearly they kept SOME elements of their beta designs but by comparison, even if you could say that X of the anatomy resembles certain parts of the gun, it no longer looks like a realistic gun only those in the know of what once was would pinpoint the similarities this accurately
