It never came out in the West, but the Famicom version of Ys 1 is probably one of the worst ports there is of it from the time. It's slow, kinda ugly, and needlessly changed compared to the PC-88 original. Famicom Ys 2 is much better. Tempted to stream them both eventually!

Kuma's design is originally from a Japanese Video game from the late 90s. Once it was ported for Western Audiences, marketing changed the attitude and design dramatically to appeal to children of the time. This then evolved to what we have today.
