It's a technique called Mordhau. It's nearly impossible to kill someone in full plate armor with a blade, but you can still knock them out with blunt force, even through a helmet. These are *technically* Valley Goons, but this is how they appeared in the 1960 cartoon, "Goon With the Wind," created by Gene Deitch. All the 1960 cartoons were done by a few different studios and Deitch went VERY off model with the Goons.
