Depends but I usually start by making a rough sketch using shapes to figure out the form with minor details kinda like what's shown below

I later redo said sketch with more details and cleaner linework until I reach the desired results

I usually use it like the tool it is. It can be a great way to come up with ideas for poses and colors but it usually needs a ton of editing to look good, even as a reference
