@SugarGliderDude @Hjalm25 @ddoniolvalcroze My guess is that poulaines were adopted due to secular fashion, but not only because of that. It's quite easy for a rider to detach his feet from stirrups when riding. In these kinds of situations the steel poulaine would be a great riding aid.
