after the manga adaptation's first volume, it does seem to me like the baseline narrative's more a fun character-based mystery than abject thriller

think the promo gag manga sold it better, but its humor comes from running out of material and how quickly it abandons its dignity

Yea I totally get that. But it does get better, I used to suck at school because I didn't see the "purpose" but now that I work in a company and my work actually has meaning and is useful to ppl, I'm way more motivated. Maybe it's your case too
