the first redraw, however, is incredibly scuffed. the sketch was drawn too close to the canvas' edge and i never bothered to fix it

USE REFERENCES!!
you don’t have to always draw, it’s okay to take a break once in a while :)
don’t sell yourself short either with commissions!! if they truly wanted to support your art they wouldn’t have a fuss paying your prices.
