Yeah it works with extra shadows! The "zones" of this face are mapped for two tone lighting but you could create more zones and use them for darker shadows/highlights. That would have to be planned out before making the model as you would have to do the topology accordingly

I really didn't want to hand edit normals, so I came up with this method of using an ID Mask to manipulate the normals in the shader. All of my shadows snap into place whereas the Guilty Gear model has smoother transitions but it's a pretty nice effect

sdjkdhk I think it can look good if the artist knows what they’re doing! imo using black for shadows (esp for skin) usually makes art look dull/dead so I like choosing more saturated colors
But really it’s personal preference so up to you~
