They prove that criticism against the poor is well founded because nothing stops them from being better (they have no excuse) but also only applicable to particulars (meaning that again, not every design created for Archie Sonic was "bad" or uninspiring). Like them or hate them.
Fact: Archie Sonic had copy-paste and awful designs
Fiction: All Archie Sonic designs were bad, cookie cutter, or copy-pastes
Bad existing doesn't negate the good and vice versa. Since we clearly went through the bad and poor, let's talk about the memorable designs and glow-ups.
But Bollers largely set story going forward, writing stories like Sounds of Silence and The Return of the King, which set up Ixis Naugus as Archie Sonic’s big interim villain.
Since there's some discourse about the echidna designs in Archie Sonic, thought I'd bring up a page I always thought looked cool.
It's like Tracy Yardley can breathe a lot of life into anything he draws. Also dat colorist Jason Jensen.
Since people don't seem to get it...
Examples of decent to good character design despite notable similarities and blood or species relation (featuring Archie and Sonic SatAm):

@nuckles87 Archie #Sonic started with the writer/artist duo Mike Gallagher & Scott Shaw. Gallagher was the nephew of the guy who created Heathecliffe, and specialized in comedy books. Shaw worked in cartoons in the 80s & also co-created Captain Carrot.
It started as a funny book.
Archie has no wish for the Holy Grail, and since it is clearly stated that he has "never been summoned by a human being as of 2030," it would be difficult to summon him, if the story is consistent.
Emotions, however, are separate from that, Archie, as I am sure you understand.
30 years ago, Archie Sonic spin-dashed its way into US comic shops. With 200+ issues including spin-offs and mini-series, it became the best selling; long running video game comic of all time. Even though it was abruptly cancelled in 2017, its legacy has yet to be eclipsed.
