Posting this to my present and future self and to anyone else who might need this as well: Taking lessons help. Observing helps. You'll improve the more you draw. Use references. Study hard. Don't give up. One day, it'll pay off.

try to lay out your UV shells less like a skinned animal and more like the shapes of tailoring patterns. Also for clothing try matching the UV shapes to the tailoring patterns for such clothing. This lets you add seamless textures without weird results. Hope this helps.
