1665 is the year that Gerard de Lairesse (Luik) arrives in Amsterdam. Shortly after thet he visits Rembrandt in his Rembrandt paints his portrait in coarse brushstrokes, in which the affected face of De Lairesse (syfilis)has not been made more beautiful than it is.

Goya’s 3rd May 1808: commemorating the Spanish uprising against Napoleonic occupation. What I did not realize until I was standing in front of it in the Prado is how massive it is! 268 cm × 347 cm Truly monumental also in the boldness of its brushstrokes.
