After very little deliberation I am calling Hylics 2 my personal "Game of the Year" as it was kinda one of the only games I actually played this year that wasn't Dota. Half-Life Alyx is an easy second but I just couldn't shake Hylics' charm and influence, superbly influential.
tbf i think the first sign that the half-life community was going to go south was when people bought this video game and went “the dude on the left is actually wearing a helmet. the artist is just lying”

I can't believe some of my all time favourite games released in the same year!! (Half-life 2 being my favourite game ever)

@altermentality The Vortigaunts from the Half-Life series are really cool. They were enemies in the first game because of the Nihilanth's control, but then in the sequels they're some of your most powerful, and friendly, allies. HL2: Episode Two and HL: Alyx especially made me endear them.

though this died out by the time of either quake 2 or half-life (maybe unreal? idk) there were some before then who had unique animations for melee weapons
ranger had a whole set for when his axe is out, lo wang and duke have some but only for when the attack is active
