I use them all the time for my space environments! The trick I tend to use is to use something else along with the gradient. Like a scratchy effect in the darker area or try to shade the character a bit or something like that. It can be an easy timesaver lol.

Finished Sword Art Online: Progressive - Aria of the Starless Night
Easy 10/10
SAO THE GOAT! The animation and soundtrack were divine! Very solid adaptation, but the LN is def better. Mito is a good character, but the amount of retcons she causes really irks me. Still SAO is SAO!
