mindless fun with shapes and colors

Back when I first started making pixel art, my style had a lot of outlines and I was very in love with the cyberpunk blues/purples/pinks. Over the course of working on other IPs and developing my own voice, I gravitated towards blocking in shapes and defining forms (4/6)

I learned that for illustrations, I should use less lineart and emphasize shape and forms through shading and highlights (color differences I think). I learned that decals make things look cooler. And I learned some funky detail-up shapes (rivets, bolts, screws, etc).

@CaezHel Tbh the easiest way I've found is to block out shapes of sections of the hair, and then gradually add small lines to separate big sections if that makes sense?
I'm bad at explaining but here's two images of kind of how I paint and sketch hair. Hope this helps kinda!!
