Often times, Mason's "heart" birthmark can be left out on his arm. It peeves me a little, but I never really say anything about it. I think it's an important part of his design because I have a birthmark similar on the same spot, but mirrored on the arms to show he mirrors me. :)

On Xenoblade Chronicles, there's a character named Dunban who lost his right arm by using too much a sword that hurts it's user.
This happens right at the start of the game and when he joins your party he has trained himself to become a lefty, his right arm is pretty much useless
