Windjammers 2 (2022, @Dotemu) - Switch
Does this count? Well, "Normal" difficulty kicked my ass for several days so I'm counting it. Windjammers 2 against all odds sets itself apart as a genuine successor to the original, but also a great game all its own. Fantastic stuff.
I had a crush on him back in my secondary school years, when I FINALLY knew about the name of the game.
His name is Arashi, a character from the Taiko Drum Game, he represents the ONI mode (Extreme difficulty) and is an alternative ego of a character name Fuuga

also i use classic sprites for them, but i like to see them with modern design, i cant use these sprites due to difficulty of editing them to do poses (i have to modernize the sega sprites i use as a base, and then start doing what i want, and sometimes its impossible for me)
