I'm always drawn to heavily western inspired/retro style anime. Bright colors, abstract shapes, tube limbs, exaggerated expressive faces and poses.. I love when styles can mix perfectly like that.

Well - there's no PBR, the polycount still produces angular and exaggerated geometry, and a lot of textures, especially for the characters, are handpainted

It's a rather particular look, so I'd call it "stylized" for sure

Without a doubt, 2008 specifically. The art from that year is peak "web-comic," and I absolutely love it.

The penguins look perfect. Not too cute - not too silly. Completely believable, and very expressive.

2009-2012 was *too* cutesy, & everything else was far too exaggerated.

It's the angle combined with the fact that he's smiling wide. You're probably used to seeing the anime versions where points are more exaggerated, but the actual official rendered game art shows it not as pointy.

My fish-girls in 2020 vs 2021. Difference is exaggerated a little since I actually shaded them this year, but that just goes to show what my energy was like in 2020, lol! Of all the redesigns, Sweet-Pea's was the most drastic, but I much prefer it now.
