I used to only do traditional art; using mediums such as graphite, watercolor, and acrylic. Recently, I stepped out of my comfort zone and have been trying digital art!

I've found that, in order to keep the integrity of the base flat color, using a saturation layer like color dodge with dark tones works well. It's subtle, but the skin stays warm and realistic here.
Also! If you elf is meant to have a different hair color, and you know some editing, make a correction layer (or set of them) with the fix and have it saved. Then just put it on the image and add a mask on it to quickly edit hair color!

I thought i'd post Riley's character design before and after. The left one is his original hair color, I was requested to change his hair color to make him look more striking, or should I say... more cunning? xD

@benbatesart Hey man, weird question but I found your sketch for the Archie cover for issue 11 and it seems like MM's face is more "on model" in the sketch. Final one still looks great but I got curious if this was an editorial thing? Also with some color, hope you don't mind!
