i have a sketch and flat colours [like image] then i add the lighting on top in layers! i then merge them all and work into it with my painting brush. i use the sketch as extra shading

There was a stealthy Maya bug going on in the last image which messed up the brow shading! Just posting another closeup with how it actually should look for my own peace of mind 🙃

As someone who has always struggled, terminally, with color theory, and will probably continue to do so until the day I die.

I really should look into gradient maps the next time I try to paint something.

I hear it's a great way to separate shading and coloring.
