One thing Barker absolutely *excels* at is establishing villains who are billed as the ultimate evil and turn out to often not be such, but also not even be the overall antagonists of their respective stories, giving way to some larger evil that's been gestating the whole time.

I should expand. Heavy Gear was a big robots game with a singular vision; T8 is a uniquely heady-spirituality (*very* 90s but it's OK) post-apocalypse w/Clive Barkerish monsters that had enslaved humanity and had been fought off but were tbh still *far* too near.
