The battle devolves into a chaotic melee as everyone joins the fight. Samurai Morale wins out in the end as officers are cut down and standards are lost. The Imperials rout once more and withdraw to their lines. The Samurai have won... But they are exhausted and all wounded
The saber wielding Imperial cavalry come charging in and engage the samurai cavalry, Though they outnumber the samurai, they are better warriors and horsemen and the battle rages as Katana meets saber in brutal contest
Algren signals his reserves in the trenches to come forward to join the battle, The Samurai Reserves charge forward in an attempt to relieve their exhausted compatriots. However Imperial volleys ravage them as they meet in close combat.
The cavalry drive the Imperials from the field as the infantry dispatch anyone who remains. Eventually the Lead force is all but gone. But before they get the chance of any respite, the fire on the path burns out. The remaining Imperials force their way through and begin to fire
Suddenly cut off from their forces and command, the leading elements panic and show disarray, that's when the Samurai climb their trenches and counter-charge. Dashing downhill smash into the leading rank before they can organize for a volley.
Officers are shot dead and the gunners panic and begin to flee, abandoning their guns. As they flee, the arrowfire shifts onto the skirmishers forcing them to retreat
The Imperials engage the trenches with skirmishers and they exchange sporadic rifle and archer fire. Seeing how ineffective rifle fire is at entrenched samurai, they bring up their artillery to blast them out.
The Imperial's send skirmishers in as they follow behind with their infantry, artillery, and European style saber wielding cavalry (which they should have always had)
They then retreat down a mountain pass to another clearing and set up on some prepared defenses on a hill overlooking the path. The defenses feature trenches lined on the edge with stakes, a gift from Algren's experience in the US civil war.
