I never really thought about who inspires me, but obviously something did. So it was interesting to think about what were some sources of the 'things I like'. These are a mix of aesthetic, lore, feel, vibe, concept, attitude, etc. Though they're shared by many other characters.

The “Heroes Reborn” version of FF was fine, but it all feels a little pointless if you’re already familiar with the characters. The whole line functions as a dry run for the ULTIMATE universe, which has its problems, but at least tried something new mixed in along with the old.

Another interesting bit in the design process was, that I got stuck a fair time on the style of the characters.
I wanted to let them feel like dark fantasy, but still work well with pixelart. So details needed to read clearly and that the sprites contrast well against the bg
I knew a big part of the mockup would be taken by the UI, so after the initial sketch I immediately started to rough it out and I kept a healthy focus on the characters.
A fun fact about the UI is that it's a lso based on earlier work...

@sheithpocalypse Yeah, there’s a definite difference in referencing and tracing. This is an exact copy, however people may think that’s okay because it’s not the same characters. :/ all the muscles and lines match the original piece.
