I'm not sure if this helps but I made gif out of some data I saved while I was making this doodle. I mostly put shadow on the overall character at first then I go on to lighting . I plus some overlay and color dodge to emphasize lightning.→

A referenced study from last night! Originally a greyscale, and then added some colours on overlay. Not a fan of that method, but can't deny I adore the result this time :>
