Lots of great ideas in this thread about lighting and design schemes. I'll just add that both of these can help set the tone for each scene, and show transition between scenes. If you're not sure of colors, you can color normally and add color filters/layers.

I think this coming weekend (perhaps even during the week?) I'm going to start working on my annual redraw of this piece. I might change the color scheme from blue to green though. On that note, my goal is never to make all of these look the same...just...similar.
