Sega separates the Sonics by their core designs. And Modern Sonic’s has been the same since 1998. If we’re gonna separate them by less substantial stuff like gameplay, voice actors & minor differences in models/sprites, then there may as well be a different Sonic for every game.

I was researching the Ghostbusters II NES game the Kirby staff (HAL Lab.) made a long time ago (New Ghostbusters II), and I learned that IDW made a crossover comic of various versions of the Ghostbusters

...and they put the NES ones as tiny sprites that talk in 8-bit. I love it.
