Pretty much, but I was also wondering about how much 2D you decide to use in your 3D. These images demo the idea. Long arm man is what I'd call 3D/2D. Whereas the fox is very 3D. But I could imagine creating long arm man's concept in that more 3D style and the inverse on the fox.

I don't know if this exactly what you looking for, but my boy Sixto has explosion powers. He knows how to use them, but not how to control how powerful, especially when he's angry. He blowed up his own arm because of this. I did a drawing of that, but it can be a kinda gore.
