Been blocking stuff out in 3D these days. Fun to move cameras and lights around. Blender's Grease Pencil is a bridge over to 2D. Photoshop then for all the actual painting work.

As much as I love the Final Fantasy series, I can't help but wonder how much better it would've been if it stayed 2D. I hope to someday see remakes with exquisite sprite work like these. Thanks to AbyssWolf for giving us a taste!
