Imo the key to drawing hair is not being scared of adding large differences in brightness between the "clumps". Hair is dynamic, and goes from really bright to really dark depending on the way light hits it (aka hair needs CONTRAST).

Lately I’ve been getting headaches and pain in my eyes even if I have the brightness turned down, and I always work in dark mode.

I heard that working with a grey background is easier on the eyes and....yeah it does help with reducing eye strain! At least it did for me
