In 2017, I tried out a new method of drawing that I felt would be more conducive to how I work as an artist. It was frustrating at first because I felt like my quality had dropped quite a bit, but I stuck through it! It turned out to be worth it in the end!!

Take a look at this tear repair! We used a thread-by-thread method & because the damage was covering such a large proportion it was necessary to line the painting for additional stability. Next week we’ll apply filler & prepare for retouching!

and in theory it should look something like this! at which point i add the spots in the darkest color and the shine on a higher layer with low opacity in either white or v light green
but really thats just my method and by no means the most efficient

not that you can't be vague in color -- though the methods are quite different. my version of this lately has been to embrace the sloppiness of painting on a single layer and resisting the temptation to use small brushes, so that fine details get dilated or disappear completely:
