Experimented with making skin gradients aswell. Makes finding good color schemes a lot easier!

also,I do NOT recommend rendering one thing at a time, give each part of the painting equal time and do it together so it's easier to replicate the lighting and quality(I'm dumb af as you can see)

For smaller sprites, my method is to make a big sketch and shrink it down.
Make sure to shrink the head and body separately. With such small sizes, the proportions should be somewhat chibi-fied. That's so it's easier to see.
Also make sure to emphasize on a character's features
