I pre-draw it completely in photoshop. I divide the outlines/inbetween spaces in easy-to-count segments for later. Shading is done in 3 types, regular (red), black (green) and "extra" (blue). After that it's all pixel counting on the switch for a few hours.

Best part about using more line art these days is honestly that I can add loopy lines to clouds and trees. I love loopy lines :') Also look at this grainy texture!!!!! I love grain!!!!

In case anyone's curious about the process I used for my fake animated Elric screencaps.
1) Background painting
2) Lines (as clean as possible, to make it seem animatable)
3) Flat colors
4) Shadows (the only rule being "core shadows are soft cast shadows are crisp")
