So proud to be part of collective! 40 around the same photo reference and 40 pieces of art… what a challenge!
It's so emulating and inspiring to see our choice about composition, colors, global expression… here are a beautiful palette of expression! 😍

Keith Maiden has no formal training and instead relies on his instincts. His ideas begin with hand-drawn scribbles. Once he is happy with the composition, he paints using layer upon layer of graphite, acrylic, oil and soft pastel.

Current WIPs! I changed up Nila's composition, gave Caleb more of a curly hair texture basis and added some costuming, and did some tweaks to Yasha to make it clear she's trying to scream. Trundling along I think!

A little bonus, I actually drew the whole body for this Callie before I decided to change the composition, figure I should share it too. :)

I did some studies based on a master painting by Max Nonnenbruch. Original on the left, four studies of mine on the right! I'm studying color and composition, and I would like to think that the fourth study of mine looks the most solid 😸

Let's take a moment to appreciate how far I've come in like... 5 years.

I've improved in design, anatomy and composition, and while I often deal with feelings of not improving fast enough, pictures like this really drive home the fact that improvement is gradual.

I'm going through some tutorial videos on composition, and one of them suggested doing some value paintings to try out the concept of balance...

Simon Carter’s paintings vary in size and composition, something for everyone this spring! His swelling clouds, earthy strips of land and vast skies capture the east coast’s meandering marshes perfectly.

Sharing these 4 main steps for my Starts with composition, followed by stronger lines to firm up the line art. Next, base-colors get added in. Last step: adding the fine details and shading!

Today in its sketches that I did for the last post. I submitted various sketches, in which composition, light and colors are all figured out. A good foundation is so helpful to take a painting to to final! :)
