Crucible and Kael in his Nergigante form have been causing havoc to the ecosystem by devouring large amounts of monsters in the area. The Hunters send teams to slay them but fail everytime to bring the brutes down. And each time they come back, the seem to be getting larger~
And the actual Maze is all purples, as an in-between area! Yellow lighting is more prominent in the uncanny valley area of the strings being played in the Plexus, but for the most part, it's all purple sh & blue light to ground us, and red on the bits that are explicitly SAO.

how i separated my horns! I made the highlight separated so it can follow the camera when it moves because thats how lighting works in real life! part of her horn is broken so I also kept that area in mind and filled it too.

even the interiors have a lot more personality in the earlier games! the fact that theres less detail makes the individual tiles a lot more meaningful and they were a lot less afraid to be unconventional with area designs, the earlier rocket base is a lot more unique-looking
@SchabbyJ if thats the case then id try using the lasso tool and snatch up the entire area and use a large brush with a single pass to block out the shadow then use the same tool to refine darker areas . it comes out with an interesting effect
