And yes, Jan was a recolor, but eventually I broke out of that and tried out other styles, until I landed on this design (the second one)

In the first I was trying out different styles to stray away from the typical "Sonic recolor" in a dress

Here's another example. The snow was just painted directly on top of the base after shifting the colors to be cooler.

Adjustment layers are your best friend. Play around with color balance, selective color, gradient maps, color lookup, etc and learn how they all work!
