As difficult as it may be for a non-autistic person, to make sacrifices for an autistic spouse, it’s equally as difficult for the autistic spouse to do the same. My husband, and I had to work hard to understand each other.

Currently forcing my wife to watch me play Fallout New Vegas while autistically explaining all the lore she doesn’t care about

The easiest way for me to show that I empathize with someone is to explain by using examples from my life. I feel like if I don't prove to you that I understand then I'll just be seen as shallow.

Most autistic people prefer "autistic person" or identity first language. Would you call someone a blind person, or a person with blindness? A deaf person, or person with deafness? When you change it it just alienates us more.

*rewatches gravity falls*

*sees the flashback where dipper's wearing a red overshirt, black teeshirt, and cargo pants*

*looks at my own clothes*

*realises i'm more like the male autistic-coded characters i projected onto as a girl than i did as a boy*

*feels weird*

Raising an autistic kid isn't always going to be easy, but loving, and accepting them for who they are should be.

Agree. I was shamed (?) into believing that I am not autistic, denied help or support during severe depression and literally my own belief, my own inner strength got me through. I am proud that I am a teacher even though every lesson is a struggle .#autism

Hi, as an adult my diagnosis wait was similar. I had to pay though as doctors desputed that I could ever be autistic '...your a teacher?' just 'depressed', given medication and told by my family to 'get over it'.
