No, the anime side mouth is just a simplification of what actually happens with mouths. The mouth typically protudes slight forward and flows backwards due to the structure of the skull. Take what I say with a grain of salt, as my style is still developing as well.

Never was a fan of the typical design so I finally tried to make my own. One that fits my taste. They're kinda a mix of bat, orangutan, bear and Beauty and the Beast's Beast. Its a big unconventional compared to the other version of bugbear but whatever.
