My suggestion is to definitely sketch out your idea first or use references

And yes, I also mean use references of other skins as well. It's how I made my skin. I used a reference of a similar skin to my idea and just started there. It turned out pretty good.

Something similar was done way back in 2006. That character was called “Shadic” and was from a fan web animation “Sonic: The Power Of Nazo” and “Sonic: Nazo Unleashed”. It only had a Hyper form though.

But yours is really, really good. I like it.
