i am not immune to shaded refs i made them all the time as a kid. they still had little colour swatches to colour pick from bUT WHEW some of the markings were lost to the shading [you can BARELY see the tail rings and grey belly on the first one dgdl]

quickly crapped out new refs for flameweaver and gecko cuz their designs (and mostly their anatomy) have changed a lot since the original refs and also the art on them was ugly. these arent as fancy but are a lot more functional i prefer making refs like this tbh
