Born in Germany in 1874, Leyendecker was considered one of the best illustrators of the 20th century.
The man in the 4th image is known as the Arrow Collar Man, most likely modelled after his boyfriend.

For some reason the melody for Sweet Genevieve popped into my head this morning. It was composed by George Cooper and Henry Tucker in 1869 and this sentimental song remained popular enough into the 20th century that people were arranging it for Hawaiian guitar.
Dating back 4,000+ years, Norway and Japan were among the first countries to hunt whales, followed by the Dutch, British and Inuit. The commercial whaling industry dates to the 11th century and the Southern European Basques…
Cities that fail to prioritise human wellbeing through the public luxury of walkability, clean air and streets, lush green infrastructure and neighbourhood parks, great schools and libraries, and a built environment that delights and inspires, will be left behind this century.
