@revolt_harwell Oh thank you! It's one mesh that I duplicated and stuck into each other :) the texture is just mild AO and normal baked from my sculpt. Made this rock in a sculpting practise back in january so it's not optimized for this scene, but green vertex paint + grass on top help blending
@Retdude I'm still in awed of how you did the painting! the color blending and the smoke ish pattern really pops out the details~ I also love how you did her expression as she focuses on the target at hand!
@xeno_toast I do very minimal shading overall (mostly just what's required to make the art look less.. flimsy ig?)
But I like to use "blocky gradients" where I layer a lot of segments of cell shading to get a slight blending effect! It's most visible in the eyes I think
Some more random painting practice this evening. The brush I was using really wasn't fun for getting good blending, so I think I've learned I should stick more to what I enjoy, rather than what some other artists seem to be using...I think it still came out okay though

⬇️ I would try a semi-opaque brush with the eye dropper tool.😊 I make “steps” to reach color A to B - varying your pen pressure can help with this too. For smoother blending, I use a mixing or smudge brush with my main brush. Hope this helps!😚
Continuing my color experiments. This time i'm
using Krita's "Hard Overlay" blending mode to shade (a better version of "Hard Light" that mixes Divide with multiply instead of Screen)
The colors aren't as vibrant as i normaly like, but it's really easy to make a good contrast.
This was really fun to do! I loved doing the shadows and the blending for the skin especially!

going over my work and kinda surprised how much rendering i do. for better or worse, ive really complicated my process, im not just shading/lighting anymore, often times im directly painting over and blending everything😱
It's way more art than science just trying to give a feeling of depth without leaning to hard otherwise it tends to look kind of plastic like.
These are light touches like 80-90% transparency with the blending.
Next up Layer Blending, the goal here is to seamlessly blend the shadows and highlights from the Hillshading into the Colour Plate base.
1 - Hillshade with a Z-factor of 3
2 - Bottom Landscape of Land/Water Colours
