Pixel art tutorials often start by telling you to eliminate jagged outlines, noise, and color count.. these pieces of mine embrace them instead.

There are lots of ways to approach making art. Don't let “rules” discourage you from creating, just have fun and express yourself.

2/6 Using single pixels allowed me the smoothness and softness of an oil painting. At 1x many people will prefer the version with single pixels. Anti-aliasing allows finer lines, more nuanced curves, & more detail. It looks more 'hi-def', and is good for 'mimesis and mannerism'.

Even though we didn't use many in this in the project, we gained a hell of experience while working on them. Smooth lines, vivid character colors, and pastel background did the trick.
