Having trouble deciding how I want to do the backgrounds for my little ToG anim. I ended up scrapping my first ones. Here are the two I drew before scrapping if any wants to see them. They were to same'y so they didn't show direction well.

Fixed the aliasing in my previous solution for directional lighting. Went from a 2d solution that closely mirrored the raycasting of the display function to a 3d solution that looks at the amount of absorptive material between each voxel and the light source.

For a 40x40 directional brush, you'd want a 120x120 image. These options can be combined to make an animated directional brush, like "kuroneko" (black cat) or the squirrel. (The cat has two frames, the squirrel has three.)

I do. Sometimes if you have a lot of action coming from different directions its helpful to position things on a map to help visual how it would unfold.
