Erwin also clearly places a massive amount of trust in Levi and relies on him a lot, and Levi doesn't take it lightly. In fact it's not only the idea of those deaths being meaningless, but the full reality of Levi disappointing/failing Erwin that would devastate Levi so.

The most disappointing way for a series to end. I am not defending anybody's actions but it's very sad to see this happen to a series that's genuinely good and innovative in the usual battle/sports/ecchi shounen demographic of Jump.
